Climb to the foot of the Old Man of Storr
Old Man of Storr
In 7 months
The Old Man of Storr, Bodach an Stòir in Gaelic, is a black pinnacle of rock standing on its own below the cliffs of the Storr on Skye. It is what the Trotternish landslip left behind, and the landslip is the longest in Great Britain. The film Prometheus came here to shoot in 2012.
A built path leaves the road just north of Loch Leathan, through ground that was once a conifer plantation, and climbs steadily for about an hour. Nobody has to go all the way. Turning round halfway is a perfectly good walk, because the view behind is half the point either way.
At the end of the path the pinnacle stands over a slope of broken rock, with the cliffs of the Storr behind it and the loch below.
