Walk the cobbles of a medieval citadel people still live in
Sighișoara
In 8 months
Sighișoara's citadel is the old town on top of the hill, inside its own walls, and it is still a town: people live in the houses along its lanes. Over it stands the Clock Tower, 64 meters tall, which has been watching the square since the thirteenth century.
The way in is uphill and on foot, over cobbles, under the tower.
It is a good town at noon. It is a better one after six, when the lanes inside the walls go quiet and footsteps carry on the stones.
In Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Sighișoara is one of the few fortified towns that are still inhabited, and its old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
